The conversion of Virtua Fighter to home consoles was a difficult task since the consoles of the time were not powerful enough to calculate the polygons in real time. In 1995, the game on the 32X and the Sega Saturn was launched on the market. While the Saturn was the more powerful device, the implementation suffered from poor graphics and complicated control.

A new edition, called Virtua Fighter Remix then resolved these problems. Christmas 1995 Virtua Fighter 2 was implemented on the Saturn, and called an offshoot of the series Virtua Fighter Kids. For Saturn's other games that were included with the Virtua Fighter universe used: Fighters Megamix (published 1996) and Virtua Fighter Portrait Series (1996).

Sega's 8-bit Master System and 16-bit Mega Drive were not suitable for viewing of 3D worlds. Since the series but could record such a success, Sega would also benefit the old console systems like this. Sega created 2D offshoot of the Games in 1996. The Mega Drive was equipped with a 2D version of Virtua Fighter 2, which was held in the graphic style of the presentation machine, but two fighters of the automatic version was missing and had only very few variations. Therefore, and because of the situation for 16-bit mediocre at best graphics of this version did not succeed. The conversion for the master system had little in common with the original, and had a simplistic 2D graphics. Consequently, the game Virtua Fighter titled animation.

End of October 2007 was followed by the Xbox 360 version, which additionally provides an online mode and is based opposite the Playstation 3 version to a newer version of Virtua Fighter machines and includes more unlockable items.

The working title of the Dreamcast game Shenmue, which was developed by Suzuki AM2/Yu was originally Virtua Fighter RPG, and included a combat system to that of the Virtua Fighter series was very similar. Throughout the Duration - and its successor - there are characters whose appearance and fighting style modeled on the characters from Virtua Fighter are very close. For example, the main character was supposed to be a Virtua Fighter veteran Akira.

Moreover, after the publication of video game fighter 2 virtua released a 35-part anime series. In the U.S., appeared two seasons, which contained 24 episodes. In Italy, the series was first broadcast on a private channel with all the consequences and later released on a 18-part DVD collection at regular intervals of 14 days.
